Western Dairy Board of Management

The five-person Western Dairy Board comprises a minimum of three farmers (one of whom must be chair) and a maximum of two persons with complimentary business skills. Advisory panel members are appointed from time to time to provide support to the directors in the management of special projects and as a training ground for potential future directors.

The board appointments are for a three year term, with an option for a second term. The AGM is conducted between the months of September and November each year.

The 2016/2017 Board:

Grant Evans, Busselton - Chair

Appointed 2014

Grant Evans took to the wheatbelt for three seasons to gain experience in other forms of farming before returning home to Busselton and the family farm in February 2005.   He is now well into a succession planning journey of purchasing the family’s dairy enterprise that milks 850 cows. Grant chairs the Young Dairy Network reference group and is playing an active role in the development of Western Dairy.

Mat Daubney, Northcliffe - Vice Chair

Appointed 2015

Mat is the co-principal of the vertically integrated Bannister Downs dairy business at Northcliffe which he founded with in 1994, converting the family’s beef farm to dairy.

Mat has a keen interest in developing and growing the WA dairy industry, with a philosophy that growth around milk supply, new entrants and investment are key drivers to success.

Brian Piesse, Boyanup

Appointed 2013

While maintaining an active interest in agricultural and agribusiness opportunities in Western Australia, Brian is currently Managing Director and owner of several retail and manufacturing businesses in the south west and great southern. He also holds a number of company directorships across the regional development and educational sector and brings a wealth of corporate governance experience to the Western Dairy board.

Brian Piesse

Ruben Zandman, Lion

Appointed 2015

Ruben holds a bachelor in applied science, majoring in agricultural finance and a masters in business administration, majoring in finance. In 2014 he joined Lion Dairy and Drinks and as their farm services manager for WA. This follows a long career in dairy and ag business, including a period as share farmer/equity partner for a large dairy farming operation in Mt Gambier.

Vicki Fitzpatrick, Waroona

Appointed 2016

Vicki holds of Masters of Biological Science (with first class honours). She and her husband Luke run a split-calving 180-cow herd at Waroona and Vicki brings to the position a unique combination of dairy science and extension knowledge and together with farming experience. Vicki has worked for government research agencies as well as conducted her own private consulting practise, specialising in nutrient and grazing management.
