Compost on WA Dairy Farms

Western Dairy has received much interest from its 2013 project that involved three WA dairy farms trialling compost product using on farm resources, culminating in a very well attended field day and further expressions of interest from people wanting to better understand the process.

We are now entering phase two of that work with the recent announcement that Western Dairy has won Caring for our Country funding through South West Catchment Council, to undertake further on farm trial work and at the same time, fully cost the time and energy associated with making the compost. We need to know “is it worth it”! Our dairy industry development specialist Rob La Grange has participated in much of the initial training and is well resourced to assist farmers interesting in starting up on-farm compost.

A number of resources are available via Rob’s office, but a quality starting document that explains compost on WA dairy farms has been prepared by consultant Matt Evans. Why not down load his article that was prepared for the Western Dairy 2013 Spring Field Day. Click here to download the document Compost on WA dairy Farms.
